“Your righteousness, O God,
reaches the high heavens.
You who have done great things,
O God, who is like you?
You who have made me see many troubles and calamities
will revive me again;
from the depths of the earth
you will bring me up again.
You will increase my greatness
and comfort me again.
I will also praise you with the harp
for your faithfulness, O my God;
I will sing praises to you with the lyre,
O Holy One of Israel.
My lips will shout for joy,
when I sing praises to you;
my soul also, which you have redeemed.
And my tongue will talk of your righteous help all the day long,
for they have been put to shame and disappointed
who sought to do me hurt.” Psalms 71:19-24
Father, I thank you for just being you. No one is like you, majestic in power and sounding in Love. Jesus, guide me today to know the will of your Father, and by your Holy Spirit let me feel your presence and know the wisdom of your Word. Amen.
Michael Jordan was arguably the greatest basketball player of all time. His fame is legendary, and even today almost 30 years since he played professional basketball, his line of shoes outsells all others. Truly he was beyond comparison, and even the best players of today would be loath to face him in his prime. No one compares to Michael Jordan when it comes to basketball.
We forget sometimes that the Israelites lived in a world that believed in many gods. The neighboring nations had deities of their own, to whom they prayed for success. Various Scriptures depict the God of the Israelites being pitted against these other gods and emerging victorious. But the Israelites took it a step further. Psalm 71:19 asks: “Oh God, who is like you?” The God of Israel isn’t just better than the others, He is incomparable—the best there is. In fact, He is the only one who matters. Today, many people worship the gods of money and entertainment. They are willing to make sacrifices to them, such as giving up their family life to work eighty hours a week. This is a tragedy as the true living God is beyond comparison.
So today, let's celebrate how incomparable our God is. Nothing in this life, or the next compares to Him. We can be content to just know and be known by Him, if we stop and meditate on just how great He is.
