“…truly God has listened…” (Psalm 66:19a) What a statement of faith, knowing that God hears our prayers when we turn from the error of trying to do things our own way, to acknowledging that He alone knows best. If you have ever been lost, and been given directions, or got your bearings from a map, you know what it is like to suddenly know where you went the wrong way, where you are now, and where you need to go.

In our spiritual lives the same is true. Perhaps it is facing the consequences of a bad choice, or hearing how our choices have let others, even God, down, that causes us to repent. To turn around. But when we DO realize we are off-track…what a joy it is to be able to turn back to God! We need not come before God in fear, but knowing that He loves us and will set us back on the Way, which is Himself. (1 John 4:17-18, John 14:6)

We can join with the psalmist and rejoice that God never withdraws His love from us. Despite our failings and sins, He always leaves the door to redemption open to us. If we will just ask, He will listen. So today, if you are in need of God’s grace, acknowledge it. Ask for forgiveness, and it will be given. Praise God who is faithful to always extend His mercy and grace to us as we grow in our love and trust in Him.

Prayer for Today

Father, thank You for always being willing to listen to me when I need to be forgiven. Wash me clean and set my feet back on the path of Your will. Jesus, thank You for all You sacrificed to give me access to Your Father’s love. Keep me humble, by Your Holy Spirit, so I can always be willing to turn to You when my own plans and actions fail me. Thank You for hearing my prayer today. Amen.
