“She seeks wool and flax, and works with willing hands.” - Proverbs 31:13

It was an ordinary chore back then for the wife of the household to go looking for the goods or the raw material to make the cloth she needed for her husband’s and family’s clothes. She didn’t go to the store and buy fabric and then sew it together. It was a task just knowing where she might go to find it. Nothing special. Just doing what she needed to do. How things have changed. For the last few centuries now, we have been able to buy our clothes already put together, relieving the housewife of this duty. It’s probably a good thing. She doesn’t have time for that sort of thing today; maybe she’s working, running kids off to activities, cooking, cleaning house, etc. It takes a lot to hold a marriage together today! The bible says: “Wives submit to your own husbands,” and “Husbands, love your wives.” (Ephesians 5:22 & 25)

It takes a lot of understanding, love, and obedience for both partners to fulfill their obligation to each other in their marriage contract. And if they are both obedient and faithful, it will work out. It is God’s plan for them. And above all, they can devote the appropriate time and devotion to serving and loving Him—together! It’s the perfect marriage, designed and originated by God Himself! Let’s not attempt to alter it.

Prayer for today: God, help all of us to be more aware of what you expect of us. Regardless of the times we live in, remind us to be faithful in our number one goal and purpose—to please you! Amen.
