“Those who forsake the law praise the wicked, but those who keep the law strive with them.”

Have you ever noticed how “birds of a feather stick together”? Someone who constantly is in disobedience to and has no regard for the law likes to “hang out” with others who have the same irreverence for law and order. It’s the unrighteous state of much of mankind! It’s a result of God giving them over to a “depraved mind.”

We are not to associate with those who are of that mind. That’s why Paul says in Ephesians 5:11-12 “And do not participate in the unfruitful deeds of darkness, but instead even expose them; for it is disgraceful even to speak of the things which are done by them in secret.” Regardless of any lengthy relationship between us and them, it is wise to break off any relationship that might not be pleasing in God’s sight. Friendship with the eternal God in heaven is much more important than friendship with those who think nothing of breaking His commands here on earth! There is much more at stake here than keeping a long-lived relationship going with someone you know is breaking laws God has given us to keep.

“Therefore,” Paul says, “be careful how you walk, not as unwise men, but as wise, making the most of your time, because the days are evil” (Ephesians 5:15-16). There is so much good to be involved in here in this life that we don’t need the influence of “lawbreakers” of any kind in our lives! Let’s devote our time and resources in doing that which is pleasing to our eternal God. After all, it’s Him with whom we will be living forever!

Prayer for today: Lord, give me discernment in who I put my trust in and with whom I choose to be my friends. Help me to always be wanting to obey every aspect of every law that’s given for our own good.  Amen
