“Hearing good news from a distant land is like a drink of cold water when you are dry and thirsty.” (Proverbs 25:25)
There are literally thousands of servicemen all over the world who at one time or another have received some good news from a faraway place, maybe home. It may have been like a refreshing drink of cold water on a hot and thirsty day. There is just something about a refreshing bit of news that can uplift your soul and spirits.
Just as important are those times when someone may feel isolated and lonely and find themselves wanting to hear some good news from someone. We may not feel well, or just may be needing some encouragement from someone to let us know they are thinking of us and praying for us. Many times it takes us to come down sick for some reason to experience that feeling. A get-well card in the mail with a little written note will perk us up!
What’s keeping us from looking around us, with our ears and eyes open, waiting and looking for an opportunity to encourage someone, to lift them up, to let them know you are thinking of them? It’s one of the most meaningful things in life to be thought of when you are down or ill. Think of someone today who may be waiting for an uplifting note or card. You never know how much it may mean to someone, and how it will brighten their day!
Prayer for today: Lord, give me a heart to be caring and uplifting to those who may be hurting or lonely. Direct my paths that I may be able to learn of their need, and then respond in the right manner. Amen
