If you've ever had a plumbing issue, you know how even a small leak can cause a lot of damage.
Ignoring the issue won't make it go away, and a burst pipe can quickly cause catastrophic damage to a home.
Our proverb today uses similar imagery to describe how strife and division can build up in our homes and communities.
Perhaps we don't say or do anything too spiteful or cruel, maybe just a sarcastic comment here, a hurtful jab there. But like water drip, drip dripping into a barrel it all adds up until the barrel is full to bursting.
Just as a small act of kindness or compassion can turn someone's whole day around, a minor act of cruelty can be the last drop in the bucket that sets someone over the edge.
Only from a human perspective are there greater levels of sin. Jesus went out of his way to teach us that from God's perspective sin is sin, because no matter it's magnitude, death is the end result.
So today, let's choose to let our little lights shine in a dark world, and refuse to contribute even one more drop into the barrel of strife.
Prayer for Today
Father help me to see how even small actions on my part can have a big impact on others. Help me to choose to add light and love to the world, not more division or strife. By your Holy Spirit give me the wisdom to make peace with all I come into contact with today. Amen
