Wednesday:

I will always remember the members of my family with whom I’ve been close. Some will be remembered for their incredible patience in the way they dealt with young me. Others will be remembered for their overwhelming kindness. Most will be remembered distinctly for their love of the Lord.

It seems that one’s legacy has always been on the hearts of God and the Biblical authors. Deuteronomy 6:5-7 says “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might. And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise.”

Included in the instruction to love the Lord and love people is man’s responsibility to teach those things to others. We see examples of this throughout the Old and New Testaments. The women who discovered Jesus’ tomb went to tell the apostles. The apostles traveled the known world proclaiming Christ. You and I are here as Christ followers because of their legacy of faithfulness.

By being faithful to Christ, our names shall be remembered as a blessing to those around us. What an incredible honor! Let us continue to live in such a way that we point to Christ both now and long after we are gone from this world.

Prayer for today: Lord God, thank you for giving us the honor of being a part of your legacy in the world. Help us to notice opportunities to share your love and wisdom. Be with us as we strive to live as reflections of your love, grace, and mercy. Amen.
